چکیده

D rug-eluting stents (DES) have dramatically reduced in-stent restenosis compared to bare metal stents (BMS). However, the occurrence of late complications such as stent thrombosis has raised concern over DES use. In addition, there has been increasing awareness of stent fracture (SF) as a potential complication following DES implantation. SF is recognized as one of the contributors to in-stent restenosis and possibly stent thrombosis. Thus, in the DES era, coronary SF is one of the most intriguing issues. The objective of this article is to analyze controversial issues that concern the incidence and clinical implications of SF.

An unusual case of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction following a late bare-metal stent fracture in a native coronary artery: a case report

INTRODUCTION A bare-metal stent fracture as a cause of acute coronary thrombosis and consequently of acute coronary syndrome is a rare clinical event that, to the best of our knowledge, has previously not been reported. A stent fracture is a rare complication arising from percutaneous coronary intervention. CASE PRESENTATION We present, to the best of our knowledge, the first documented case ...

Stent "concertina:" stent design does matter.

The development of modern coronary stent platforms has transformed the landscape of interventional cardiology. Contemporary coronary stents are much more deliverable than older-generation stents. However, longitudinal deformation has emerged as a "new" complication in modern coronary stent platforms. Although most reported cases of longitudinal stent deformation involve mechanical or technical ...

Detection of very delayed coronary stent fracture using a novel fluoroscopic stent visualization technique against intravascular ultrasound

RATIONALE Stent fracture has received increased concern as it may be an important risk factor for late stent failure, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is always recommended to confirm the diagnosis of stent fracture. StentBoost can detect stent fractures more easily due to the enhanced stent strut visibility, compared with coronary angiography (CAG). Few cases were reported to compare the advant...

Application of 64-slice spiral computed tomography angiography in a follow-up evaluation after coronary stent implantation: A Chinese clinical study

Background: This study assessed the application value of 64-slice spiral computed tomography angiography (CTA) in a follow-up evaluation of patients receiving coronary stent implantation. Materials and Methods: A total of 468 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at our hospital between January 2013 and October 2016 were selected for this study. Coronary angiography an...

Coronary Stent Fracture: A Recently Appreciated Phenomenon with Clinical Relevance

In the stent era, in addition to restenosis, there are many important consequences deserving more attention. Firstly described in peripheral vascular interventions, it took several years for stent fracture to be known as an appreciable complication of coronary intervention. Especially with the introduction of drug eluting stents and the use of coronary stents in more complex cases, its prevalen...
